All of our Service Dogs are individually trained by you and our training teams to meet your needs.

Donation Requirements

The donations that we receive from our service dog program help us to maintain our organization and keep our facility operating on a daily basis.  All trainers and office staff that work with our service dog program do so on a voluntary basis.  All donations go to help with vetting expenses, rent, utilities, insurance and caring for the dogs.

IPhone application for ADA - includes section on Service Animals

Getting a Service Dog is a very important decision. It is an enormous committment from your entire family for years to come.

You have, no doubt, seen these amazing animals on tv and maybe in your community.  But what you haven't seen is the tremendous amount of work the owners have put into these dogs to make them the calm, obedient, and very talented dogs they are.

What is a Service Dog?

ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or any other animal individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability.

Qualification Process

To qualify for our program, you must have a need for a service dog, complete the application and other neccessary paperwork, complete the donation requirements and successfully complete the training requirements.

Options for Ky Residents

If you find the cost of a Service Dog to be so high it seems out of your range, we have options.

Our option plan, (Pay as you go) most chosen, is to use a dog from local shelter or rescue. The dog is temperament tested for its ability to work and perform assistance task.

You would learn to train your dog through a step-by-step lesson plan. Each week your lessons are reviewed, and if you have accomplished the previous lesson plan assignment, then another lesson plan is added.

You can go as fast or as slow as you wish, depending on your work schedule or your lifestyle.

If you live in Kentucky, you can attend the Saturday, Service Dog classes. We meet each Saturday at 11:30 to discuss Public Access Work, Obedience Training and Task Work.  You can attend every Saturday or every other or work it into your schedule.

It can take six months, a year or two years to earn your Public Access Certificate using this Option Program.

First Step to your goal; You will be expected to earn your S.T.A.R. Puppy Certification if you start with a puppy.

Second Step to your goal: Earn your 6 week Basic Obedience Certificate.

Third Step to your goal: Earn your Canine Good Citizenship Certificate

Fourth Step: Earn your Intermediate Obedience Certificate

Fifth Step: Earn your Advanced Obedience Certificate.

Within these steps you will also earn your Public Access Certificate, Public Access Hours, and your Task Work Certificate.

This Option Program operates just like a regular Obedience Program. You sign up for a 6 week course, finish it and earn your Continuing Education Units for it. If at any time you wish to discontinue the classes, you are free to do so. However, you will not have an acknowledged Service Dog from us at this point. Only when you have finished your Program Steps will the dog be eligible for Public Access Test Certification.

Total cost of this Option Program can run from $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 depending on how long it takes you to accomplish your goals and the Program Steps.

We presently have dogs available for this program.

Service Dogs are considered Medical Tools under IRS Tax laws and classes can be deducted as can the cost of the dog or any expense that pertains to the Service Dog. Keep your receipts.
